Briefly we received the opportunity to experience Premium Membership.
Now my thoughts are based entirely on the statistical features that are on offer. Which if I am to be honest, came up wanting.
So I'll list the kind of information that I'd like to see. None of the values below should include my use of my own media because I will be performing management tasks, correcting errors or updating a description or something.
1) if a deviant A visits one of my deviations lets say Number 5, then I'd like to know which if any deviations came next. Number 3 or Number 7? And after that so on and so on. To build up a chain to allow me to understand the popularity of the content.
2) How many times have a deviation been viewed (not including repeat visits from deviants).
3) A hit counter per deviation that can be viewed with a granularity which goes up to daily.
All these stats and information should be viewable with the deviation as a thumbnail and should be as applicable to folders and journal entries alike.
Deviant Art features that are Premium Membership based that I've notice so far that haven't interested me are, the critique request and more channels.
None Premium Membership comments but still important.
Now, for the issue of mature content. As a mature deviant generally I am not distressed by mature content but as a mature deviant there is not necessarily any warning that the content of a deviation which I am about to view is mature until I reach the description below. This is important because though I may not be offended by such content it may be prudent for example to allow a user who may not be offended by nudity on the one hand but on the other find idealogical challenging material unacceptable.
From the thumbnail view of a deviation there should be an info control to allow the visitor to view some info, like stats, keywords, category, file size, the file download control and title.
Further more to this end in deviant setting there should be two new sections. First the list of 'Contains mature content' categories which the user is then able to exclude from any viewed content, each with the option of strict or warning. The second new section is a list of keyword chains, lets say as an example a key word chain is 'chess -- pawn -- white', this would preclude any content showing the white pawns form a chess set being shown to the deviant, again I would stipulate the idea of strict and warning should be applied. Which in the case of the warning the keywords info being available to provide the information the deviant needs to decide whether to view the content. A chain could consist of as few as one keyword or as many as is unreasonable.
I realise that what I'm suggesting would require a lot of work to implement but I believe that it would greatly improve DeviantArt. Being honest, I seriously doubt anyone will read this. To go further I'd almost put money on the suggestion that no officer of DeviantArt who may be able to do anything about my thoughts here will read this. In case this posting is too deflamatory, I'll propose this brown nosing statement. I really like Deviant Art, my thoughts above are intended to be helpful and constructive.
